The Pistons Academy Summer Camp Tour is scheduled to tip-off in June, 2021 and we are looking for people to fulfill several camp positions. This will be the 9th summer of Pistons Academy Camps and we are excited to return to the courts throughout Michigan.
“We are expecting to facilitate between 18-20 camps this summer,” says Pistons Director of Fan Development, Geo Thomas, “And we are looking to hire between 10-12 new people to fill several positions. This is a great opportunity for varsity-level and college kids to work in a fun and fast-paced sports environment.”
Here are the positions the Academy is looking to hire for the summer of 2021:
OPERATIONS TEAM: This is the crew that handles the operation of the camp. The team will consist of 2-3 people who will transport the equipment to each camp location. Each morning, the Opps Team will set up the check-in process, facilitate lunches, handle injuries, manage camp inventory and assist the Camp Director in running the camp. Other duties include social media, updating website, parent communication and taking stats. Age 18-29 preferred with a strong driving record. Event experience is recommended. Compensation ranges between $14-$18 per hour. This is a 40-hour per week position running from early June through the end of August.
CAMP STAFF: We are looking for the most energetic, exciting and knowledgeable camp staff in the area. Coaches will work 8:30-3;15pm Monday-Friday at locations throughout the metro-Detroit area. Coaches will be expected to teach basic basketball skills, officiate games and coach kids in grades 3-9. Reliable transportation is required. Ages 16-25. Compensation ranges between $250-500 per week based on experience. This is a 40-hour per week position running from early June through the end of August.
LEADERSHIP TRAINING STAFF: For students entering grades 8-10 in the fall, we have the leadership training program which will provide a teaching environment throughout the summer. Students will learn coaching, officiating, public speaking, sports journalism, first-aid protocols and more. Candidates will go through a vetting process and we will select the top six candidates to join the program. The cost is $350 and students must be able to train a minimum of four weeks throughout the summer.

Interviews will then be scheduled in March with training days in early April. All positions will require live auditions at one of our Pistons Academy events in the spring.
