All-Girls Camp Off to Solid Start

July 23rd, 2018

The Pistons Academy summer basketball camp tour, presented by Kroger, makes it’s annual stop at the All-Girls camp in Birmingham.

Of all the stops on the Pistons Academy summer camp tour, there’s one special week that’s reserved for some of the toughest, most competitive, and hardest-working campers around: the annual Pistons Academy All-Girls Camp in Birmingham!

“This is always one of my favorite weeks of the summer because we draw so many talented, hard-working, and attentive young ladies,” said Camp Director Bryan Bollin. “The attention to detail is always so good and the camper’s are very coachable,” he continued.

Monday began with the “Blake Griffin First Impression Drill” where campers displayed energy, hustle, and determination as they tried to show the coaches they were ready to work! Following some 1-on-1 and 3-on-3 action, the campers were organized into their divisions and preseason teams were formed.

Campers were introduced/reminded of the proper shooting mechanics and quickly put their skills to the test in our group shooting stations and 4-Ball competition. Other camp events included morning skill stations and preseason 5-on-5 games.

“Today was a great first day of camp as we were able to assess the current skill level of our campers and set the tone for the rest of the week,” said Coach Bryan. “As the week unfolds, we will dig deeper into our skill development and the competition in various contests will really heat up,” he added.

Due to several absences on Monday, the 5-on-5 standings, 4-Ball standings, and other camp contest scores will be posted on Tuesday following the start of our “regular season”.

Congratulations to Gretchen Stief, our Player of the Day on Monday! Gretchen had an all-around great day as she worked hard in stations, was a leader during games, and had a positive attitude.

Best 1-on-1 Performance: Brooke Brown
Teammate of the Day: Madison Kesman
Hardest Workers During the “Blitz”: Christian Sanders, Isabell Kulick

Check-in begins at 8:40am. Due to a summer school program, we will not have access to the gym until 9am.

Camp will be dismissed at 2:30pm on Monday-Friday. There will be an awards ceremony at 2pm on Friday.
