The Pistons Academy summer basketball camp tour, presented by Kroger, makes it’s annual stop at the Elite Skills camp at Franklin Athletic Club in Southfield.

Wednesday was all about toughness at the Elite Skills camp inside Franklin Athletic Club, as campers received a message on what it really means to be a “tough” player and person. When asked who the “toughest” players in the NBA are, we typically hear the popular names like Draymond Green and former Pistons’ big man, Ben Wallace. Campers were quick to point out how those players hustle for the ball and play good defense. However, as Camp Director Bryan Bollin pointed out, there’s much more to being “tough” than hustling and playing hard. Being tough is all about putting your best foot forward no matter what situation you are in.

Tough players do not complain about a bad call or their teammates performance. They control their own effort and attitude and help elevate others to their level. Tough players listen to their coach and do whatever they can to help the team improve. Tough players do not take plays off and they always practice with a purpose. Tough players do not fight their opponents or talk trash – they compete as hard as they can and respect their opponent – win, lose, or draw.

However, a basketball player cannot expect to be tough on the court without being tough off of the court as well. Tough people respect others, have a positive attitude, and give their best effort in everything they do. Whether it’s doing chores at home or completing school work, tough kids are the ones that take pride in everything they do.
