The Pistons Academy summer basketball camp tour, presented by Kroger, makes it’s annual stop at the Elite Skills camp at Franklin Athletic Club in Southfield.

Tuesday at the Pistons Academy Elite Camp featured some inspiring performances from our campers. Tuesday’s theme was hard work – with players being challenged to work harder than they ever have before. The day got started with Coach Amber Deane’s “Reaction Drill” where campers reaction times are put to the test as they battle for possession of the ball with a partner. Following a high-energy warm-up, the campers were drilled on ball handling and were able to get plenty of reps and touches in.

Camp Director Bryan Bollin showed the campers a series of ball handling drills that can be done on their own. “Part of our mission this week is to arm the campers with a bunch of drills and different things they can take home with them to practice and improve,” he said. “We showed the campers many different dribbling drills and challenges. I look forward to seeing which campers will take what they learned at camp and implement it into their practice at home,” he added.

Campers were also instructed on the “Pick & Roll” and learned the nuances of executing an effective ball screen. During the 3-on-3 competition and 5-on-5 games, many teams and players utilized their newfound understanding of the pick and roll to find easier shots and put the defense in difficult positions.

“We have had 2 great days to start our week at the Elite Camp,” said Camp Coach Alex Ross. “We are excited for the next 3 days and look forward to helping these campers improve their overall skills and understanding of the game,” he added.
