Two games tipped off the 12th season of Friday Night Lights and both were filled with exciting performances:
CRUSH 24, REBELS 12: The Crush used a 14-0 run to start the second half to breeze by the Rebels Friday en route to a solid 12-point victory. Crush forward Olivia Grenadier led all scorers with eight points while her teammates Taylor Hartwig and Clara Guffey added six points each. Rebel point guard Maya Boertman paced the Rebels with six points and five rebounds. The score was close at the half as the Crush enjoyed a 4-point cushion, 10-6.
The Rebels outscored the Crush 6-0 in the second half as Elan Jojic, Natalie Weisman and Stephanie Lisch scored for the girls in Black. Crush forward Brooke Brown led all rebounders with nine. “I liked what I saw out there,” said Coach Laura Barrick, “I think I can see some line-up changes now where we will be able to field a more effective team.”
DRAGONS 22, ANGELS 11: The Dragons were able to outscore the Angels 10-4 in the second half as they earned their first victory of the season (1-0). Sharayana Luckie and Addison Rosner each scored six points for the Dragons while Arden Hafron added four points and three rebounds. Paige Macavage and Brandi Campbell added four points each for the Angels.
The game was a defensive battle early on as Campbell and Dragon forward Jadyn Butler each had two big blocks to open the game. The score was just 2-2 after the first quarter. The Dragons transition game opened up in the second quarter where Luckie scored all her points. Sydney Butler and Gabi Polokoff also scored while running in transition. Still, the game was still close at halftime as the Dragons led 12-7.
