The Pistons Elite girls travel basketball program will be holding tryouts at the Franklin Athletic Club in Southfield the weekend of October 20-21.
The tryouts are for all middle school girls (grades 6-8) who are looking to play with and against some of the top players in the area and the state.
“We have had some solid success over the last few years,” said Pistons Elite Director Geo Thomas, “Although we aren’t at the level of the elite teams in the state, we have had success in local tournaments and leagues and many of our players go straight to varsity for their 9th grade year.”
Thomas has been coaching boys basketball since 1991 at the high school and AAU level. He switched over to coaching girls in 2015 and has enjoyed the experience. “Coaching girls is really not much different than coaching boys,” adds Thomas, “The girls in our program now practice hard and are ready to take on any challenge we set before them. That success in practice has translated to success at game time!”
Pistons Elite teams practice out of the Franklin Athletic Club in Southfield and travel around the state of Michigan. Last year’s tournaments were in Lansing, Grand Rapids, Clarkston, Flint and various smaller tournaments in Oakland County. The season will start November 4 with the Big Cat League in Novi and run through the end of March, 2019.
