Grand Rapids Campers Finish Strong on Friday

July 14th, 2018

Friday 11

In partnership with MSA Woodland (Michigan Sports Academy) and the MBA (Michigan Basketball Academy), the Pistons Academy summer camp tour, presented by Kroger, made it’s first-ever stop in Grand Rapids.

Friday the 13th was one to remember inside MSA Woodland as our Grand Rapids campers put on a terrific display of heart and hustle! With trophies on the line and Champions to be crowned, the “quest to be the best” was in full force. The final day of our inaugural camp in Grand Rapids delivered some terrific team and individual performances, as well as a few upsets and “underdogs” rising to the occasion.

Was it a thrilling day of competition and sportsmanship in Grand Rapids? Yes. Was the staff of Pistons Academy coaches surprised by how Friday played out? Not one bit. “All week long, this group of kids has been such a pleasure to be around. With each passing day, our staff became more and more impressed with their talent, heart, and passion for the game,” said Coach Bryan Bollin.

Following Friday’s action, Director Geo Thomas reflected on our week in Grand Rapids. “Last winter, when we sat down with MSA and discussed bringing a Detroit Pistons summer basketball camp to the Grand Rapids area, we were confident that it would be a great week of basketball and a positive experience for everyone involved,” explained Coach Geo. “Everything about this week’s camp exceeded our expectations. We could not have asked for a better group of campers, parents, or host facility in MSA Woodland and the Michigan Basketball Academy. We can’t wait to be back next summer!”

The Detroit Pistons and the Pistons Academy would like to thank our campers and their families for a great week! Also, a special thank you to the staff at MSA Woodland for their assistance and serving as the consummate partner for this week’s camp. Lastly, we would like to thank the Prince Conference Center at Calvin College for their hospitality and accommodating our coaching staff during their stay in Grand Rapids.
