Due to Governor Whitmer’s Executive Order 2020-160, all indoor basketball camps are forced to close starting on Saturday, August 1st. Pistons Academy outdoor camps will remain open.
“We are very disappointed to be closing our indoor camps after just one week of activity,” said Pistons Director of Fan Development, Geo Thomas, “We all worked so hard to prepare for the re-opening and all of our coaches were excited to get back on the courts with our campers. At least we have a few outdoor camps that are still active.”
After six weeks of cancellations, the Pistons Academy resumed action the week of July 27 with camps in Southfield and Novi. Both were executed safely and the format still allowed for outstanding basketball instruction. “It was really great to see all the kids at camp this week,” said Pistons Academy Camp Director Bryan Bollin, “Even with the safety protocols in place, we were able to execute a fantastic week of basketball.”
All those who were currently registered for an indoor camp this summer will be refunded in full. For those looking for an outdoor basketball experience, the Novi Mini-Camps are still taking registrations and the Academy may be adding additional outdoor events before Labor day.
“Hopefully the Governor will realize that all camps, if taken seriously by directors and coaches, can be a safe environment for kids,” adds Thomas, “Until then, we will remain strong community partners and follow the mandates from our state leaders.”
