Livonia Camp Ready for Finale

July 6th, 2017

Day 2 of the Pistons Academy summer basketball camp in Livonia, presented by Kroger and in partnership with the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit, was a day full of skill development, competition, and hard work. The bar was set very high following Day 1, but these campers continued to perform at a very high level on Thursday inside the Frost Middle School gymnasium. Here are some of the highlights from Day 2:

Our 1-on-1 contest winners from both the White and Blue Divisions competed in the “Spotlight” 1-on-1 Finals in front of the entire camp. We had two very competitive match-ups that both needed overtime to declare a winner. In the White Division, Molly McLeod defeated Noah Brown on a buzzer-beating jumper from the right baseline. It was an incredible shot and ended the highly competitive and physical contest. In the Blue Division, Liam McCormack-Reamer and Will Reed battled for bragging rights among our older campers. Will jumped out to an early 6-2 lead in the race to 7 points, but Liam’s physical play began to wear him down. Liam knotted the game at 6 before forcing overtime. In the overtime period, Will Reed knocked down one of his patented outside jumpers to claim the Blue Division 1-on-1 title.

In our Free Throw contest, the following players have secured #1 seeds heading into Friday’s Championship bracket: Nicholas O’Leary, Matthew Glassmeyer, Mia Dietrich, Will Reed.

Florida leapfrogged Duke in the 4-Ball standings to secure the top seed in tomorrow’s 4-Ball Playoffs. Duke will be the second seed.

Here is a complete look at the camp standings following Day 2: Livonia Camp Update (Thursday)

Friday will feature playoffs in 5-on-5 team play, 4-Ball competition, and the Free Throw Championship.

Impossible Question: There have been many incredible players to wear the Detroit Pistons’ red, white, and blue. Who are the top 3 leading scorers in Detroit Pistons franchise history? Write your answer on a 3×5 piece of paper and turn it in to Coach Drew at check-in for your chance to win an autographed item!

Reminders: There will be a short awards ceremony beginning at 2:15pm on Friday. Camp will be dismissed at 2:45pm. All players must wear their camp jersey in order to participate in playoffs. The camp store will be selling water, Gatorade, and snacks for $1.
