Story in progress…
10-9 was too close for comfort as the campers from the Pistons Academy Camp nearly pulled off the first ever upset of the coaches in the Camper vs Coaches Game. It took a least second steal by Coach Jordan Roebuck to find a flashing Coach Jake Thomas who hit the game winning shot at the buzzer and keeping the coaches undefeated in 2019. “They gave us a scare when they went up 7-0,” said Coaches Captain Dustin Sims, “I think we took them too lightly. They were tough!”
“The game was symbolic of the grit and determination the Novi campers have,” added Coach Geo, “Their reputation for tenacious play keeps growing!”
As the regular season ended, the expectations for Fun Friday are right around the corner as playoffs for 5-on-5, 4-Ball and Free-Throws will all begin. In the 4-Ball event, Michigan overtook Louisville for the #1 seed with an 8-1 record. But Louisville still remains the favorite as they topped their own high score by 23pts as they set a camp record of 125. However, the team to watch is Princeton (7-3) who went undefeated Thursday and scored 101 points. Check out the final standings here: Novi 4-Ball Standings
In the FT Contest, four players secured #1 seeds for the Tournament: Ashton Battah, Kosuke Shokawa, Jacob Semke and Michael Beno all will face off against the feed-in winners tomorrow. To view the full schedule of opening-round match-ups, click here: FT Seedings Novi
RED DIVISION VLOG:
Through the lenses of Coach Bethany… It is officially August, the month of preparing for back to school, wrapping up summer, getting excited for the Fall! But for Pistons Academy Novi, August 1st was nothing but continued competing. With that being said, I have a massive update on today for you, so without further ado:
The big match up for today happened to be our Rock, Paper, Scissors tournament hosted throughout the day. The Red Division winners were Rayhan Bhatti, Aiden Lee, and Adrian Noujaim. Good job guys!
For 4-ball, the bracket match ups will be: H and F, C and D, E and B, and finally G and A. We’re looking forward to getting a winner tomorrow!
The Player of the Day from the Red Division is Aiden Lee. We chose Aiden for today’s Player of the Day because he is relentless in his desire to get better. He is a fantastic leader, and respectful on and off the court. In games, he never argues and is just gets to work in any way possible. The coaches are very impressed by his leadership, basketball skills, and overall attitude throughout the camp.
Your lightning qualifiers (for the almost $400 moneyball!) are Austin Hermaz, Cole Noonan, Dominick Palmer-Angi, Dominic Calka, Asher Tainsky, Aiden Lee, and Michael Beno. Beno is also the only number one free-throw seed to come out of the Red Division. Congrats Michael! Here are all the Red Division Stats: Red Division Stats
Tomorrow is Championship Friday, and we have the awards show at the end of the day. Playoff 5-on-5 games should start around 12:30 if you are interested in that, and the Red Division has a great surprise for the parents, starring Sami Alzoubi. See you then!
