The Pistons Academy of Youth Basketball, powered by Kroger, visited Morey Courts today for the first ever Pistons Camp in Mt. Pleasant. “It is really exciting to be here today,” said Camp Director Geo Thomas, “Many of our staff graduated from CMU, including myself, and this is a community that appears to love its basketball!”
Today’s theme was HUSTLE and there were a few players that went above and beyond coaches expectations. Aaron Vanassche (pictured) was the top player nominated by the coaches as his hustle was seen both on and off the court. “I loved the way Aaron hustled back on defense and was always running to his team lines or the next event on the agenda. It was pretty awesome!” Other players who were nominated for the best hustle were Ben Kropf (transition), Beau Habitz (defense), Hope Ostrowsky (Defense), Cooper Bunting and Dalton DeBoer (all-around)
52 campers did not disappoint the coaching staff as they worked hard throughout the day. Most of the camp was pre-season as coaches evaluated players and began forming teams. However, two events did start their regular season today as 4-Ball and the FT Contest advanced through its first few rounds.
In the 4-Ball contest, every team earned at least one win while no team went undefeated. “There is usually one team that dominates day one in 4-Ball,” said Coach Jake of the Red Division, “But today it seemed like everyone got hot at the right moment.” Check here for the 4-Ball standings: MtP 4-Ball Standings Mon
In the FT Contest, Blue Division star Payton Butkovich leads all shooters with 13 points. However, Talan Bailey (13), and Delaney Seamen (12) and Gabe Wylie (12) are close behind. Here are all the FT Scores: Mt. Pleasant FT Scores
Name the Hall-of-Fame, Bad Boy Piston who was known for his hustle, rebounding and defense in the 1980s-90s. HINT: He wore #10 and was nick-named “The Worm”
If you think you know the answer, write it down on a 3×5 piece of paper and turn it in at check-in tomorrow morning. Correct answers will be placed into a drawing for an autographed Andre Drummond Basketball.
