The Pistons Elite 10th grade boys used their high-pressure defense to win the FAAST tournament in Canton on April 16th.
After going 3-0, the Elite earned a birth in the Championship game against the home team, the Canton Knicks. The game was close in the first half with several ties and lead changes. After some small adjustments at halftime, The Pistons Elite used stifling defensive pressure and transition offense to earn an impressive 64-38 victory. “I was very proud of the boys on how hard they played,” said head coach Mark Fabian, “They wouldn’t be denied and their defense of pressure was relentless. The whole team contributed with great chemistry”
Point guard Michael Melaragni had an incredible tournament and dominated both sides of the ball in the championship game. Michael shut down Canton’s best player and finished with 20 points, 11 boards, 7 assists and 4 steals. Dante Candela help dominate in the backcourt with 11 points 8 assists. Big Man Jake Schuler saved his best for the championship game setting the tone against the bigger Knicks team. Jake was all over the floor with 10 points, 8 boards, and multiple steals. Guard Andrew Carson, who paced the Elite in the first game with 22 points, chipped in with 12 points.
