Rookie Clinic Makes Big Strides

February 8th, 2017

The Pistons Academy Rookie Clinic, presented by Kroger, welcomed a special guest on Tuesday evening. Inside the gymnasium at Franklin Athletic Club in Southfield, this group of Rookies welcomed Coach Geo Thomas, Detroit Pistons Director of Fan Development, to the clinic! Coach Geo brought with him a ton of energy, a wealth of knowledge, and a bunch of fun! “What an outstanding group of Rookies here at Franklin! It was a great honor to work with these young players tonight and I enjoyed every second of it!” said Coach Geo.

Following an energetic warm up, where defensive stance and fast feet were stressed, the players broke down into groups and worked on the specifics of passing skills. Players were instructed on the proper technique for making a pass, calling out their partner’s names, and executing picture perfect passes. There was even a full-court passing relay that saw some great execution and resulted in a close finish. Later, our Rookies had the opportunity to play “Hot Seat,” a fun, exciting, and competitive shooting contest. Many of the Rookies knocked down some clutch shots, showcasing their soft touch and efficient shooting stroke!

The last drill of the day was the “Blitz,” a short but intense conditioning drill that truly pushes players to the limit! Each Rookie’s endurance, mental toughness, and desire to improve were tested! Several players gave tremendous effort during the Blitz. Way to go!
