The Pistons Academy Rookie League in Southfield, presented by Kroger, began practices on Thursday night inside the gymnasium at Franklin Athletic Club. Each of the six Rookie League teams began preparations for an exciting, competitive, and fun winter season. Players and coaches will look to navigate the season schedule with an eye on the Rookie League playoffs, in hopes of reaching the Rookie League Finals and competing for the Winter 2017 Rookie League Championship. Teams will aim to improve each week, whether in practice or games, as the coaches stress the fundamentals and playing the game the right way. “Every season is a little bit different and with some new players and coaches this season, it will be great to see the development and growth of each team as the league schedule unfolds,” said League Director Bryan Bollin.
The full season schedule was released on Thursday and can be viewed by clicking the link below. Each team will have either a practice or game each week throughout the season, concluding with a 6-team playoff bracket. The league will not meet on Thursday, February 23rd due to the mid-winter break for many area schools. Playoffs will begin on Wednesday, March 15th and there will be no meeting on Thursday, March 16th as the Pistons Academy will be hosting the annual Academy Awards night at the Palace of Auburn Hills! All league members and their families are invited and encouraged to attend this free event and celebration of Pistons Academy youth basketball. More details on the playoff schedule, as well as the Academy Awards, will be released at a later date.
