It has been a thrilling regular season for the Pistons Academy Rookie League, presented by Kroger, at Franklin Athletic Club in Southfield. The past several weeks have set the stage for what will be an exciting and highly entertaining playoff season. “We’ve seen a bunch of great games and a lot of improvement from each team in the league,” said League Director Bryan Bollin. “I am very excited to watch these kids compete for the chance to be named Rookie League Champions!”
Suns 26, Celtics 18: Our final regular season contest featured the Suns and the Celtics. Both teams entered the game in search of their first win, and their determination was no full display from the opening tip. It was a back and forth first half, featuring a good amount of scoring and plenty of hustle and hard work. The Suns led by a slim margin at the half, but were able to take control of the game in the second half. Jermon Johnson (6 points) and Alex Ashare (6 points), led the way in the second half for the Suns (1-2). They also received nice contributions from Josiah Robinson, Brody Nagaj, and Ethan Citrin, who all netted 4 points. Mazen Saber was also a central part of the Suns second half run, as he grabbed big rebounds and made some really nice passes. For the Celtics (0-3), Hudson Rosner had a huge game with a season-high 10 points. He displayed a really nice shooting touch around the basket. Jordan Scott (2 points) was dangerous as always, and garnered much of the Sun’s defensive attention. Grant Main’s (4 points) hustle was on full display, while also showing a nice ability to handle the basketball and bring it up the floor. Ultimately, it was second half turnovers that doomed the Celtics, as the Suns were able to force them into trouble and convert the turnovers into easy opportunities on the other end. Both teams will be back in action on Wednesday, March 15th as they prepare for a deep run in the Rookie League Playoffs.
