Royal Oak Camp Ends In Style + Golden Ticket Winner

July 1st, 2017

All-Camp Team

118 Campers gathered at Royal Oak Middle School for Friday’s conclusion of the 2nd annual Pistons Academy Camp in Royal Oak.  “The week was a huge success, even though we had to split the camp into two locations,” Camp Director Aaron Smith said on Friday, “But it worked out pretty nice and in the end I think the campers enjoyed the week.”

The court in the main gym at Royal Oak High School was being replaced so the camp was split into two, one at the middle school and the other in the auxiliary gym at the high school.

Friday’s camp started with a top-flight performance from the Pistons Dunk Team -The Flight Crew, where campers witnessed some amazing high-

flying dunks.  It was one of their best performances in a camp setting.  “They were so amazing,” said camper Richard Powe, “They get so high and can still dunk it while flying!”

The camp transitioned to 4-Ball and free-throws. In the free-throw contest, Jaden Ryke (Red) and Drew Mlesko (Blue) won the championships in their division. Jaden was a #1 seed while Drew advanced as the #3 seed.  Both shot over 75% in the tournament.

After the free-throw finals, campers displayed their traditional entrance show in front of the parents. It was one of the more creative displays in the history of the camp.  The Red Division opened with an airplane show but quickly transitioned to a Lion King tribute.  The White Division, perhaps the loudest of the three, performed a tribute to 70s bowling icon Earl Anthony.  And finally, the Blue Division had an impressive military march onto the court. It was an impressive display, however the dunk attempt failed in the end and the parents voted Red Division the best intro of the afternoon.

Evan Stark won the camp MVP and delivered a humble and gracious speech, thanking his mother for bringing him to camp and Coach Geo for running the week at the middle school.

After camp, campers were give “back-to-school” folders which contained a special GOLDEN TICKET.  If your ticket is #44, please contact Amanda Moss at amoss@palacenet.com to redeem your Pistons Prize pack which includes an Autographed basketball by a Pistons player and many other cool gifts.

Next week we have two camps.  The first at the Boll YMCA in Detroit with Tobias Harris and the other at Frost Middle School in Livonia.  Spaces are limited so register today:  Click here to register!
