Although the weather was nearly 20 degrees cooler than last year’s Royal Oak Camp, the hustle and competition inside the gym was hotter than ever. “This may be the most energetic camp we have ever had in Royal Oak,” said Camp Director Geo Thomas after camp today, “The hustle and
work ethic these kids have is very impressive. I can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!”
The free-throw competition heated up as well as this camp is proving it has some very strong shooters. Alone in first place is Red Division Superstar Devin Young who has a perfect 18 out of 18 points. Close behind is Nicholas Ishak with 15 points and Parker Miller with 14 points. Tomorrow’s point values will increase to 2+2+2+2+5 in the morning and then 3+3+3+3+5 in the afternoon. Here is a list of the current FT scores: Monday’s FT Scoresheet
In 4-Ball, Baylor (3-0-1) has a 1-point lead over Eastern Michigan and Arizona, both 3-1. But watch out for Clemson (2-2) as they have the camp’s high score so far (96) in spite of being 2-2. Nicholas Hoffman has been shooting very well and could power his team higher in the standings on Tuesday. Here are your 4-Ball standings (Red Division will be posted tomorrow morning at camp): 4-Ball scoresheet
Today’s prize winners were Lily Shipman (Rookie of the week) and Quinn Callaghan (Hustle). Both campers displayed the positive attitude, work-ethic and hustle that we love at Pistons Academy. “Quinn was such a strong worker today,” said White Division Coach Jake Thomas, “I loved how he never took a second off.”
Some notes going into Tuesday:
- We have sold out of basketballs for the week so we apologize if you were planning on purchasing one on Tuesday.
- Royal Oak girls varsity basketball will be using the gym tomorrow afternoon so those in the post-camp skills clinic can either transfer to a different day or be refunded in full. Inquire with Coach Dimitra tomorrow morning.
- There are still some spots available in the pre & post-camp skills training sessions. Sign up with Coach Dimitra in the morning
- Impossible Question: Coach Bryan Bollin worked the campers out this morning. List either the High School or College where Bryan played basketball. Write your answers down on a 3×5 piece of paper and turn in to coach Dimitra at check-in on Tuesday.
