With over 60 campers attending the two Spring Break basketball camps with the Detroit Pistons, we can officially say that spring is here, despite the questionable weather.
At the camp in Birmingham, campers went through “Spring Training” as coaches worked with and evaluated the players. “These are traditionally great kids who are willing to work and learn,” says Camp Director Geo Thomas, “This year is no different as all the players worked hard and showed us what they had.”
The only regulation event today was the Free Throw Contest where kids shot five shots for a total of 12-points possible. Our leaders after Day 1 are Miles Johnson and Luke Vaughn, both who have 10 points. Alex Osborne-Adams, Noah Yaldo and Aaron Brayman are tied for third with eight points each. Wednesday’s point values will be 2+2+2+2+7, so many more points to be earned!
Our players of the day were Nicholas Ishak and Addison Johnson. They both impressed their coaches with their positive attitude and work ethic. “I chose Addison because she has really good energy and was friendly with other campers, Said Camp Coach Jillian Gomes, “She likes basketball and listens to directions and she didn’t complain about any of the conditioning!” Addison’s favorite player is Kevi Durand but her role model is her Dad and she says,”My Dad is my role model because he never gives up!”
Nicholas Ishak had an outstanding day as well. This 9-year-old was one of the hardest workers in camp and was always willing to volunteer. A 4th grader at St Mary’s of Royal Oak, Nicholas’s role model is also his dad. “He is always positive and he encouraged me to play a lot of sports like football and basketball”
Camp resumes Wednesday at 9am with more games and contests and special prizes to be given throughout the day!
