The Detroit Pistons Academy summer basketball camp tour, presented by Kroger, makes it’s annual stop at the Rookie Camp in Bingham Farms. This camp, for players entering grades 2-4, is designed to teach the fundamental skills and techniques needed for competitive play.

Day 4 of the annual Rookie Camp featured a special guest appearance from Hooper – the world’s best mascot! Hooper and Coach Aaron stopped by camp Thursday afternoon to hang out with the players and share some wisdom! Although Hooper was a little excited and wasn’t behaving himself at first, Coach Aaron made a deal with the campers in order to allow Hooper to stay at camp. REESE BYAS had to knock down a pressure-packed free throw in front of the large crowd in order to earn Hooper a second chance. After sinking the shot, Hooper gathered himself and was able to spend some more time with the kids. Each camper even had an opportunity to meet Hooper and take a photo!

Thursday also featured many contests and fun games geared at teaching skills in a fun and interactive way. Campers played the highly-popular “Hot Seat” shooting game and also participated in “Declare,” a coin-flipping game that teaches hustle, focus and instinct.

“Tomorrow is the final day of Rookie Camp and although we are sad this week will come to an end, we are very excited to watch the playoffs on Friday and take advantage of another opportunity to improve and learn the game,” said Camp Director Bryan Bollin.

Congratulations to JACK NEMETH on being named Thursday’s PLAYER OF THE DAY for his toughness and willingness to do whatever it takes to help his team!

Other top performers on Thursday:

Coach Kait on DAISY BOWMAN: “Daisy worked very hard on Thursday and gave her best effort no matter the circumstances or situations. She has really progressed this week.”

Coach Max on LUKE TYLL“Luke had great energy on Thursday and was hustling all over the place. His strength and determination really stood out. He is also a respectful player and listens to his coaches while also helping his teammates.”

Coach Dustin on KAVAN ARORA: “Kavan is always in a good mood and you can tell how much he loves the game. He has been a lot of fun for all of the coaches to be around.”

Camp check-in begins at 8:40am. All players must check-in at the camp entrance each morning.

Lunch orders must be placed in the morning at the check-in.

Campers should wear their Pistons Academy camp jersey each day.

Camp dismisses at 1pm on Monday-Friday. There will be an awards ceremony at 12:30pm on Friday. Family and friends are welcome to attend.
