The theme at camp today was “Old School” as coaches talked about the importance of commitment and team building. “So many times players and teams give up on a season or each other,” stated coach Geo Thomas, “We want to instill a sense of commitment to finish what you start and be accountable for your own actions.”
“I agree,” added Coach Jake, “I’m not a big fan of NBA super teams or great players leaving for teams with 3-4 all-stars already. How about getting stronger as a team first?”
The hustle and effort speeches must have been working as Josephine Pirok was seen diving for loose balls all day. “I’m not sure what I’m thinking when I dive,” said Jo, I just want the ball so my team can score.” Josephine is a 6th grader from Munster Indiana who has been outstanding this week on both offense and defense.
In the Free-Throw competition, players were on-fire as several players registered perfect scores. This is one of the closest and most competitive events as only a few points separate the top players. Yahya Husain and Reid Love (37pts) have a one point lead over Yusuf Fateh (36). Nick Wagner and Ali Hider are tied for 3rd with 34 points each. View all the scores here: FT Scoresheet
In the 4-Ball competition, Purdue (4-2-1) pulled off the upset of the century with a 78-72 victory over Louisville (6-1) . That set up a classic match-up of undefeated Clemson (8-0) vs Louisville. Louisville came out swinging and set a camp hi-score of 165. Purdue scored a respectable 106 but in the end, Louisville is still the team to beat. However, Louisville took on the Camp Coaches (Alex, Dan, Aaron and Geo) in a friendly and the coaches let them know they still have a ways to go by pounding Loiusville 196-116.
