Coach Geo Thomas returns to the South Oakland YMCA this fall to lead a skills clinic for boys and girls in grades 3-5. “It has been almost 25 years
since I last taught a class at the Y,” says coach Geo, now the Director of Basketball Fan Development for the Detroit Pistons, “I am looking forward to retracing my steps and continue the fine reputation the Y has for basketball.”
Coach Geo taught his first basketball clinic at the South Oakland YMCA in December 1990. He was with the Y for five years before accepting the Sports Director position at Franklin in 1995. Since that time, Coach Geo has been the CEO of AlphaWolf Basketball, he has coached in over 1500 High School and AAU games and is now overseeing the Pistons Academy’s growing relationship with the Detroit Metropolitan YMCAs.
The clinic he will be coaching is for grades 3-5 and will begin Monday September 11. The clinic will meet every Monday from 5-6pm, ending on October 23. All skill levels are welcome to participate and every player will receive a Detroit Pistons Skills Clinic Shirt. The instruction will focus on skill development, rule comprehension, the importance of good study habits and, of course, physical conditioning.
Special guest appearances will include Royal Oak Boys Varsity Coach Aaron Smith, The Pistons Mascot Hooper and some of Pistons Academy’s top basketball instructors.
“I am looking forward to this so much,” adds Geo, “I hope I can live up to my younger self!”
